This message is for all of you that have expressed an interest in the ‘special’ postcard swap. In view of the expense of postage I thought I would give you advance notice of the rules – especially as some of you have also already said you would like to join in with other Weekend postcard activities.
This is what I have in mind – it is an exercise that I frequently use with students during one of my design courses – and then afterwards work a round in the following fashion to reinforce what has been learnt.
It’s like a Round Robin. There are 5 people in each round – it works like this.
Everyone (A, B, C, D, E) cuts their own card – 6 x 4″ and marks it into 5 equal parts (1, 2, 3, 4, 5).
Person A covers section 1 on their card using a design/colour of their choice. This card is sent to Person B
Person B covers section 1 on their card with their choice – then fills in section 2 of the A card – being sympathetic to A’s colourscheme etc. 2 cards are sent to Person C
and so on until Person E receives 4 cards, covers section 1on the last card and adds to all the others.
Card 1 is now complete – so Person E sends all 5 cards back to Person A who retrieves their card. The round repeats with completed cards being removed until card 5 arrives home with person E
Everyone will consequently encounter 2 lots of postage. Let me know via a message whether you still want to be involved. There is no reason why this can’t start sooner rather than later – in other words it doesn’t have to wait until the weekend. I don’t want to open it up to anyone that didn’t take part in the previous swap so would like to finalise this before others are admitted to the Postcard group.
Here is a card that has been constructed using this system and two others showing a marked and a signed card
