So, how did you get on with yesterday’s blue pen? It feels different to a pencil, and it’s worth continuing with those exercises using as many different ‘subjects and implements as possible. If you can spend just 10 or 15 minutes a day making marks on paper it will aid your observational skills and inspire in all sorts of ways. Today, however, we are going to look at the images we have created and take them in a different direction.
Remember those very first images you created? They probably look like a muddle of overlapping lines and shapes on a page. Scan and print the page and then alter in the following manner.
Fill each shape with parallel lines. Interpret this in any way you wish – follow the contours – ignore the contours….. your choice….. The edges can be treated in the same way. Your images will be totally unrecognisable at the end – and that is the object of this exercise.
