Did you take a photocopy of your ‘coffee’ prints? There are several things we can do with these. We’ve already made a start on one other exercise, now we’ll start a second.
Study the original.
Choose an area approx 5 x 5 cm square (approx 2 x 2 inches) You may like to cut an appropriately sized sqaure in a piece of card to help you make your choice, but do not cut the original or photocopy.
Using your sketchbook, or plain paper, and pencil – NOT A COMPUTER PROGRAM – reproduce the marks as below (begin by drawing the squares denoted in the following instructions)
1 – in a marked square of the same size (5 x 5 cm) (Tracing is not allowed)
2 – in a second marked square enlarge it to 7.5 x 7.5 cm (approx 3 x 3 inches)
3 – in a third marked square enlarge it again to 10 x 10 cm (approx 4 x 4 inches)
It might help to draw a grid first – do this on one of your photocopies, not the original as we will be returning to it later this month.
Was it easy? Difficult? Did it seem a waste of time? Write about your observations and reaction alongside each square.
